Full Description: The building in the centre of the group (now 74 Upton Road) is an early Georgian building dated to about 1700. It was once the home of Mary Pitt, and her last husband, William Herschel. During the latter part of the 19th century and the early years of the 20th century Upton House was a private school for girls.
This postcard is postmarked 26 July 1906. At that time Miss Mary Etherington was Principal of the school.
The firm of Elliott and Fry, founded in 1863, was one of the most famous and important Victorian commercial photographers. |
