| Full Description: The shops in the photograph are, from left to right, Sewmaster which was at 237-239 from about 1968 until 1989. At 241 Eastern Carpet Stores which were at 241, High Street from about 1968 until about 1982. Weathersbee Optician was at 243 High Street from about 1940s until about 1997. Photo Market was at 245-247 High Street from about 1979 until 1980. 245-247 High Street was previously occupied by Jacksons Jewellers. J Isaacs Furnishers and Carpets were at 249-255 from the 1920s until 1984. In 1983 J Isaacs vacated no. 249 and this was then occupied by the Cooper Magic Shop.
In about 2001 the site was demolished and Wilkinson Houshold Goods occupied the new building. Wilkinson Houshold Goods are still there in 2007.
The shops are all of modern construction, probably dating to the late 1940s. |
