Full Description: This Victorian Church was built in 1842 and demolished in 1958 leaving the square tower intact. The stained glass recovered in the demolition was sent to the City Museum and the six bells were dispersed around the diocese. The site remains as an open space covered by an extension to what is now Debenhams, at the lower end of the High Street, opposite the Marks and Spencer store, where W I markets etc. are held. It is known as St Maurice Covert. In 1865 sheep grazed very close to what is now the High Street. Copy photograph by John Brimfield.
