Full Description: View of the keg store along the line of the former railway siding. Picture number HS 372 continues the view to the left. In the background can be seen the roof of the Snooker and Dart Club, Minnesotas, formerly the maltings. The London firm Courage's bought the brewery from Henry Hall in 1903 and ran trains daily to the city from their own railway siding. Peak production was in 1950 when 250,000 barrels were produced but brewing was transferred to Reading in 1969 and Alton became a canning, kegging and distribution depot. Bass bought the whole site in 1979 and demolished much of the old premises to build a new brewery which opened in 1982. |
