Full Description: The Wheelwrights shop, previously the business of C J Newbury showing new windows in cottage and no workforce in the area. Remnants of carts however are outside on the grass. The cart lying on the grass belonged to W A Newbury's shop in Sarisbury Green. The first bread to be delivered to Warsash came from his bakery. Previous to this the inhabitants of Warsash baked their own bread, but when the common land was enclosed in the area between 1860 and 1864, there were difficulties in obtaining fuel so this had to be given up and thus began the bakery trade. About 1869 the first bakery in Warsash was established by E Pounsett at Dibles. Reference: 1. F W L. 1992 Revised reprint. Short history of Warsash, p. 3 and 24-25. Copy photograph of a photograph.
