Full Description: St John's Church was built by the Winchester based architect John Colson from 1875-1880 and replaced an earlier chapel of rest. Although looking fairly ordinary outside, inside it is something special. It is built of stone but the inside is brick lined. It has complex stone and brick pillars with leafy capitals and serrated edges to the arches, well carved stone corbels above with alternating heads and foliage. Most of the bricks are red or crimson, but the patterning also uses grey, yellow, black and blue. Characteristic late Victorian fittings include the stone pulpit and reredos and the wooden font cover and screen. In the churchyard survives the simple brick tower of the old church, built in 1829.
