Full Description: The new magistrate's court was opened in 1994. Trinity Street, leading north from West Street, had many small shops throughout the 1940's and 1950's. From West Street, some of the businesses included Howard's, the Victory, now the Fareham public house, Dorothy Self, a grocery store, George Hussey, a newsagent, a private house from which Mr Harris ran a taxi service, Plowman's sweet shop, a private house, a fish and chip shop owned by Fishy Meek which is now Castle Fisheries and Dunstall's flower shop, now a funeral parlour. On the other side, at the corner with West Street was the Royal Oak, then the Good Intent, both pubs, Dorretts general stores, private houses then Jeffery's furniture store. Although Trinity Street was not a main shopping street, it still contained a great number and wide variety of different shops. Even nearby Gordon Road contained a few shops at this time. The area is much changed today although a few of the shops still remain.
