Full Description: Portsmouth Borough Police Force was established in 1836 with a superintendent earning around £100 a year, three inspectors earning £30 p.a., three sub inspectors on 17s a week and about 24 constables. In 1843 a new police station was built in Ordnance Row Portsea.
