Full Description: This Baptist chapel stood on the west side of Portland Terrace, at the corner of Clifton Terrace. The foundation stone was laid on 25 June 1840, and the chapel opened for public worship the following year. The congregation had split from the East Street Chapel, and the new chapel had an uncertain beginning. It was closed for a time in 1843-4, re-opening as a Particular Baptist chapel. It is of a plain design, of yellow Bath brick with white stone dressings. By the end of the nineteenth century it had sitting accommodation for 900 worshippers. The building was destroyed in the Blitz of November 1940. Its membership joined with that of Carlton Baptist Chapel on London Road.
