Full Description: Tudor House after its restoration by W F G Spranger between 1898 and 1912, with the assistance of the architect E Cooper Poole. The Tudor building was recreated as near to its original state as was possible. The ground floor frontage was completely restored, including the filling in of the central arched doorway. Plasterwork above was removed to reveal the underlying timbers and brickwork. Timbers to support the porch were added.
The Corporation purchased Tudor House from Spranger in 1911 for the uncharitable sum of £4500, only half what Spranger had spent on its restoration. It was opened on 29 July 1912 as a museum, a function it still performs.
Our postcard is postmarked 29 March 1915. It was issued by Cotswold Publishing Co Ltd of Wotton-Under-Edge, a firm which printed many postcards for Francis Frith.
