Full Description: An all embracing view along Western Esplanade showing the range of monuments erected here since this area was laid out in 1900. Nearest to us is the Stella Memorial, then the Mayflower Monument, with the cannon of the saluting battery facing harmlessly out to sea. The clubhouse of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club, built 1846 by T S Hack, and, on the right, the entrance to the Royal Pier lie beyond. The trees, newly planted between 1898 and 1900, are starting to grow. |
