Full Description: Victoria Barracks were built in 1888 with much of the work being done by convict labour. Rumour has it that one of the convicts who carved the heraldic devices on the apex of the main building asked to be kept on after his sentence had finished in order to finish his work.
Most of the barracks were demolished in 1967 to make way for the Pembroke Park housing estate and a hotel. The one surviving block of the barracks now serves as the City Museum.
