Full Description: During the rebuilding of Aldershot Public Library in 1962 to 1963 the Sergeants Mess at Warburg Barracks, which was due for demolition, was used to house the Public Library. Only the left hand end of the building was used, as the right hand end was derelict and building materials from there were used to burn in the iron stoves to supplement the heating during the cold winter of early 1963. After the Library moved out to its former premises on the corner of Station Road and High Street (where a newly built first floor had been completed), the Mess was demolished and the multi story Warburg car park built on its site. |
